Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do to the nature of our water management we are often not able to give exact locations for trips until a day or two ahead of time. In general, I suggest that folks stay in the greenfield/Deerfield area to lend a shorter drive. I have a deal with the Deerfield Inn located in Old Deerfield. Please contact me for more details, or check out my info on the web site (Link Here)

  • For float trips and summer time wade trips boots and waders are not necessary. They are required for Fall, Winter, and Spring wade trips and recommended for float trips during these times of year. The Handmade has a selection of Orvis Clearwater boots and Orvis Clearwater waders and we can accommodate most people, just let us know what your shoe size is and your height.

  • To an extent. Much of the water we fish is highly regulated and flow rates are determined by hydro electrical demands. The daily release schedule and flow predictions are revealed to the public by 5pm the night before. We get this information, combine it with weather conditions, fishing pressure, water temperatures etc.. Once these data have been analyzed we determine where we can go with clients.

To answer the question, the best we can do is try and accommodate your requests, but be prepared for the destination to change the day before.

  • We try our best to accommodate your guide requests.

  • Typically, Spring and Fall dates are fully booked 6-8 weeks ahead of time, and summer and winter dates are 2-4 weeks out. Things are always in flux and we end up with cancellations, so best practice is to reach out in the moment and plan ahead when time allows.

  • Winter time is a magical time of year to be on the water, with some of our best fish of the year come to the net in the wintertime. Expect the cold, and you should be layering in non-cotton clothing. In the winter we recommend wearing long underwear, fleece layer, fleece jacket, waders, a winter shell, hat, and gloves. I also eat a lot of calories, and use hand warmers. We fish better if we can focus and being somewhat comfortable makes that easier in the wintertime.

  • For general guided trips our cancelation policy is if you cancel the trip within 5 days before the trip, your deposit is forfeit. If we have to cancel your trip due to unsafe conditions, we hope to re-book you with that original deposit or it can be refunded, up to you.

Please understand that if something does come up please reach out because, our first choice is to figure out how to get you on the water, and most of the time we are able to work with you on rescheduling your trip.

  • Yes, we will still go fishing, unless conditions look like they will be unsafe. In general rainy unstable weather can be really productive for fishing and I look forward to these conditions.
